As a Trainer, when you start running a course the first thing you have to decide is
" What do you say to begin with ?"
The main thing you've got to do is to get the audience on your side. This you can do using many of the standard hypnotic language patterns.
For example use of the "yes" set, metaphors and loops, pacing current experience, metaprograms, liberally sprinkled with positive embedded commands.
Pacing current experience
-"so here we are, you are sitting there,
I'm standing here and it's about half past nine..." (this is also a Yes Set).
Use of the Yes Set.
this is the Telephone Skills course, isn't it? " ( Yes set and Tag question),
and I expect that you will want to get away on time (Mind reading and Yes set) so let's get started...."
Positive embedded commands
"I'm sure, that you, like me, want to get
through this week as easily as possible........."
Personality
Other things to consider are their Meta-programs. You will appeal to more
people than you may have done in the past when you develop the skills of talking to them using statements based on general meta-programs.(Generally speaking, without the right sort of training, the way we use language is a reflection of our metaprograms and is not necessarily easy for the people we are talking to to understand.)
Extrovert/Introvert
"we shall be doing some group exercises as well as leaving some time for private study and revision....."
Sensor/ Intuitor
"generally speaking, before we get into the detailed aspects of this topic, we shall be covering the broader issues and principles and then we will be ready for some hands on execises ..."
Thinker/Feeler
"I expect you will find the subject to be quite logical and as you begin to put the pieces together, you will start to feel more confident about how you can personalised the system for your own use..."
Judger/Perceiver
"....and we will be giving you some checklists, so that you know that you're on the right track, and also leave some time for you to develop you own variations to suite your particular style..."
Sameness/Difference
" I expect you'll notice many aspects that are similar to things that you have learnt in the past. We shall be concentrating on on the new additions and improvements that have made so much difference to ......."
And then of course that still leaves many more metaprograms and
metaphors and loops as well as other standard opening patterns that can include all of the above and more.......
But that's enough for now.
And as you come to the end of this article you may be wondering what will be covered in the next issue. Will you see things that are familiar to you or hear some things that are totally new and there will come a time when you will to feel more confident so that you can start to use these patterns now, in your own presentations and appeal to even more people than ever before, and as you spread the magic dust of enlightenment along the path that you have chosen to travel, you can sleep well, knowing that another good job has been done.
